Paisajes sobre el signo de Cosmos was written for a retrospective exhibition of the Mexican painter Jose Maria Velasco (1840-1912) in Mexico's National Museum of the Arts. It also memorializes the untimely death of a friend of the composer. The emphatic percussion and repeated chords in the strings create a portrait of strength and perseverance. |
